Anxiety disorder is a condition where one feels extremely nervous and anxious. This condition may lead to effects detrimental enough to stop the patient from doing his daily activities.
Two causes were identified by researchers that cause anxiety disorder: biology and stress. The first cause, biology, means that anxiety disorder can be transferred genetically. If a first-degree relative of yours suffers the condition, there will be a high probability that you will also have the disorder. The second one means that a stressful lifestyle can lead to anxiety disorder in the long run if not taken seriously.
Below are several tips to help overcome anxiety. And the good thing is that you can do them by yourself.
Tip #1: Use of Herbal Medicines
Herbal medicines have been around ever since and its effectiveness is never doubted. There are a lot of herbal medicines used to reduce stress. These include catnip, chamomile, lavender, motherwort, and lemon balm. These herbal medicines are very effective in relaxing the body and reducing stress and thus reducing the risks of an anxiety attack.
Tip #2: Have a Break
Too long work hours can be a heavy burden to our body and will cause stress to build-up. A five minute break just to have a little stretch or a walk down the corridor is good enough to let out the built stress. This also improves blood circulation in our body and reduces muscle fatigue due too long hours of sitting and working.
Tip #3: Regular Exercise and Proper Diet
Regular exercise and proper diet help our body absorb more stress. It enhances our defenses so that we can do more and handle stress more. There are a lot of simple exercises out there that you can do to help you alleviate stress. Walking is a simple exercise which you can do everyday - when you go to school or to your office or when you go to the convenience store. So next time, try to take a walk instead of riding a car.
Tip #4: Deep Breathing
Deep breathing is well known to reduce stress by allowing oxygen to flow throughout the body. Oxygen is a key component in our body processes. Deep breathing gathers the required amount of oxygen and distributes it to various and significant parts of our body allowing it to function properly.
Tip #5: Therapy Sessions
Therapy sessions conducted by professionals are very effective in improving a psychiatric condition because these sessions are geared towards a specific goal - that is to improve your anxiety disorder. To be specific, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy is a therapy proven to be highly effective against all the different kinds of anxiety disorder.
Tip #6: Positive Thinking
Anxiety works by us thinking of bad things or negative things that might happen to us. This means that our negative thinking triggers our anxiety attacks. In order to avoid this, we should then think more about positive things. We should fill up our minds with good memories and good thoughts. This may be hard to do at first but regular practice will make it easier.
