When one is trying to help an alcoholic the options may vary. The first and most important thing is for the alcoholic to admit he/she has a problem. There are many programs available for alcoholics. The trick is getting the alcoholic in question to get help. Often they will fight this idea tooth and nail. Do not give up one never knows when they will actually see the light and decided they want to quit drinking.
The least expensive way how to help an alcoholic [] I know of is Alcoholics Anonymous, or AA. This program is free for men and women suffering alcoholism. This is one of the best ways that I know of is take them to an AA meeting. There they will meet others who have stopped drinking or trying to stop drinking just like themselves. AA meetings are helping alcoholics recover from alcoholism around the world. If you or someone you can not quit drinking this is a good place to start!
Al-anon is a program that can help you, not the alcoholic, understand how to give advice and how to cope with your loved one and their problem.
If you have a friend or family member who is suffering alcoholism, in my opinion one of the best way how to how to help an alcoholic is talk to them and understand why they have a problem. Are they having family problems? Do they have financial issues? Learning about the person is key in how to help an alcoholic with finding recovery.
There are many online sites that can give useful information on how to help an alcoholic who is suffering with alcoholism; but is always best to try to speak to someone in your real life.
You must find out how committed the person is on wanting help. Do this in a loving and caring way. Once they admit they have a problem they can begin their healing process. There are many recovery homes available, and vary in price.
The hardest part in helping an alcoholic recover is setting limits on what you will and will not tolerate. If they do cross a boundary you have set, what will their consequences be? And will you follow through.
