Many have labeled Coconut Oil as a ‘miracle oil’ and there is no denying that it has proven beneficial to health in many ways. Coconut Oil is easily available in almost every region of the world and found in a range of varieties. You can go for 100% organic or virgin oil that is expensive; on the other hand, you may consider cheaper brands that offer pure coconut oil as well.

What is Coconut Oil?

Coconut Oil is an edible substance extracted from the kernel or meat (the white part) of a mature coconut (not the green ones). It is known to contain a plethora of fatty acids that are rich in antioxidants. These antioxidants are the main reason for its plentiful health promoting properties. It has a zero amount of protein and only traces of Vitamin E. Coconut oil is about 90% saturated fats, which is way higher than that in vegetable oils or olive oil. Even pure butter contains between 60 to 70% saturated fat, which according to doctors should not comprise more than 6% of our daily diet. So, how is it possible that coconut oil will it aid in weight loss?

Relationship between Coconut Oil and Weight Loss

Coconut has a very high fat content and consuming too much can actually lead to weight gain and obesity. However, the high levels of cholesterol that it contributes are in fact the good kind of cholesterol, and can be very rewarding with controlled intake. The constituents of this oil can take up many fat-soluble nutrients, including vitamins. This assists in the digestion process by eliminating toxicity that can often cause stomach ulcers.

As it is a food having high calorie content, it provides a massive energy boost that will improve your metabolism. It is a very filling food as well and deprives you of hunger for longer hours. When you put these effects together, you can conclude how coconut oil will ultimately promote weight loss. It will gradually raise your resting heart rate, which means that you will burn more calories that you already are doing the same activities.

It is time that you add coconut oil to your diet, and you will eventually see results. Make sure not to use more than two tablespoons a day and it is even better to start with one.
Organic coconut oil has a strong odor that might take time getting used to. You can always opt for the refined odorless varieties, though going organic is the best option. You can prepare your food in coconut oil in combination with olive oil or any other unsaturated cooking oils as well.

Additional Benefits of Coconut Oil

As I mentioned earlier, the presence of abundant antioxidants in coconut oil is its biggest advantage. This gives it anti-ageing properties, and hence commonly used in skincare and hair products. It acts as a good moisturizer, reduces inflammation, and even accelerates the healing of wounds or personal injuries. The fatty acids in coconut oil also have antimicrobial characteristics which help prevent acne and clarify skin.
