5 Tips for Wellbeing

The main thing you need to remember in life is that you are the most important person and therefore you need to look after yourself both mentally and physically. If you get that right then everything else will fall into place. This does not make you selfish in a negative sense but will put you in a much better position to cope with the things that life throws your way. If you don't care for yourself you won't be in a fit state to look after or be there for your loved ones. So here are my top tips for well-being:
Love yourself. Its true that you have to love yourself before you can love others. Just like other people need reminding that you love them, remind yourself that you love you! Everyday look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself I love you! and mean it. You can do this as many times as you want throughout the day either out loud or in your head. You should soon feel a whole new sense of happiness and love for yourself!

Eat well:This may sound obvious but what you put into your body really does have a massive affect on your mood and well-being. Most people find three proper meals a day at around the same times works - so that your body is at its most efficient and boosts your digestion and metabolism. You may find that a different regime works for you: experiment if you need to. You also need to make sure you are getting the right amount of vitamins and nutrients, so try to eat a varied diet with lots of different types of fruit and vegetables. If you are feeling low on energy you might not be getting enough iron in your diet, try eating more leafy green veg and iron-rich foods, e.g. broccoli, avocado and spinach.

Sleep well: Sleep is very important and varies depending on the person and time of life. Some people need more sleep than others. Be careful not to oversleep as this can make you feel grouchy and sluggish. The main thing is to try and get into a good sleep pattern. It is important to wake up around the same time every day, even if you went to bed late the night before. If you have a lie-in don't make this more than an extra hour or so or your whole routine may shift and you will have trouble getting to sleep the following night.

Exercise: Do not underestimate the power of exercise and how good it can make you feel. Exercise is proven to lift your mood as it releases endorphins - the happy hormone. It increases confidence and reduces stress. Try to do 30 minutes of exercise 4 times a week. If this proves too much just try simple things you can fit into your schedule. Walk to the shop, do 10 squats or sit-ups before you get in the shower, lift some cans of beans while waiting for dinner to cook or dance to the radio when no ones watching! All these things can help get you more active and burn some stress.

Reward yourself: Give yourself treats every once in awhile for being good! Whether this is having quality me-time or seeing your friends. Doing the things you enjoy will boost your mood. You need to get the work/life balance right to feel on top.
Although these tips may seem obvious and be things you already know, the difficult part is to actually follow them and implement them in your life. If you can make small steps to increase your well-being by maybe doing a bit more exercise or looking after yourself that bit better, it can make an enormous difference on your mood and quality of life.
