Today we are living a stress full life jumping from one thing to another without giving our body and mind the rest that is due. Nobody has the time to sit back and relax. A fast paced world requires an even fast paced individual. It's a rat race and the fastest rat wins. But with the entire pace comes a rampant disease 'stress'.
Stress relief is all about relaxing and giving your body and mind time to recoup. There are various ways to do this. Meditation and muscle relaxation are techniques that give you the much needed solitude and recharge you for next day. Social interaction and practicing meditation with others also helps a lot in beating stress. Deep breathing is one of the easiest and the most powerful techniques used by people to relieve stress. The mechanism of deep breathing is to breathe deeply from the abdomen and getting lots of fresh air in your lungs. When you take deep breaths you inhale more oxygen in your lungs. The more oxygen person`s body gets, the less tense, short of breath, and anxious he feels.
Another way of beating the stress is progressive muscle relaxation. It is a two-step process in which you systematically tense and then relax different muscle groups in your body. Muscle relaxation makes you aware of the tension in various parts of your body that accompanies stress of your body and helps you counteract them.
Meditation is also effective in reducing stress, anxiety, depression, and other negative emotions. It helps in reducing the 'over thinking'. You tend to forget the past and start living in the present.
Yoga and 'tai chi' are techniques that involve the movement of body. While yoga involves a series of both moving and stationary poses, combined with deep breathing 'tai chi' is a self-paced, non-competitive series of slow, flowing body movements. Both of these techniques emphasize concentration, relaxation and the flow of vital energy throughout the body. Staying calm and focused through life is as important as running to get ahead. Yoga has been chiefly the most important stress relief techniques which have been used since the time immemorial. Firstly it was practiced only in India but nowadays its ways and means are being followed in every nook and cranny of the world. It is also known as "YOG" in India and has mythological importance. For a person to be agilitic and smooth in his works, it is very important that he or she relieves himself of the stress.
Of course those techniques mentioned above are only a small part of instant stress relief techniques that will help you reduce the stress.
