Vata (comprised of air + space): is the controller (neurological system), principle of change, principle of movement, whether it is the physical movement of the body or thought, neuro-electrical impulses, wind blowing outside, gas/burping – air in the body. Also, the catabolic degenerative principle psychologically gives us imagination and flexibility.
The psycho-physiological manifestation in a person with these qualities (constitutionally/genetically, whether physical or mental): Ectomorph, thin frame, small muscles, bones, dry skin, frizzy hair, dandruff, prone to constipation, insomnia, fast movements, always moving (changing jobs, relationships, religions, et cetera), can’t sit still, psychologically ungrounded (prone to anxiety, fear, nervous), emotionally unstable “next mood swing in five minutes”. Prone to arthritis or other neurological issues, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, irregular menstruation, difficulty conceiving, weakness, fatigue, weight loss , muscle loss or bone loss.
However, when in balance, we will not have the abovementioned negative issues. The predominance of excess Vata constitutionally in the system makes people more prone to having these problems. The excess qualities always get vitiated. Like increases like.
Pitta (Fire + water): Metabolic principle, all metabolic functions in the body or nature – whether it is the digestive enzymes in your gastrointestinal (GI) tract, neurotransmitters in the brain, photosynthesis in plants, or rice cooking on the stove.
The psycho-physiological manifestation in a person with these qualities: Mesomorph, medium build, medium stamina/strength, slightly oily skin, early grey or balding, prone to skin problems (acne, hives, eczema, et cetera), GI issues of excess heat – heart burn, ulcers, et cetera, prone to loose stool/diarrhea. Intelligent, psychological/emotional – driven, focused, motivated, giving. “Name/fame, money, power, sex is the Pitta game.” Prone to anger and irritability, a perfectionist, jealous, and aggressive. Type A, menorrhagia, et cetera.
Kapha (Earth+Water): Anabolic principle, controls all anabolic functions, cohesion, being stable/grounded physically or mentally, compassion, love, patience. Moms are Kapha – they give so much of themselves.
Endomorph, big bones/muscles/frame, gain weight easily, oily skin, grounded, stable, hold down jobs (9-5 for 30 years, same company), homebody, raise family, don’t obstruct, forgiving. Easy conception, regular menstruation, can be prone to getting uterine fibroids, cysts, et cetera. Prone to high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, et cetera. Addiction to candy, cookie, and chocolate. Depression, lousy, drowsy, couch potato, lack of motivation, clouded judgment, sluggish, cataract (excess/accumulation) or glaucoma.
