There are a lot of challenges facing adolescent children or teenagers. During this period of trying to locate their stable identity, their behaviors change and go wild if not controlled by parents.
In the time past, adolescence used to start at the age of 16 or 17, but recent research reveals that children of 11 or 12 years old begin to manifest adolescent challenges. Some are so innocent that they don’t even know what is happening to them only to see changes on their bodies.
Now, if I may ask. What are the causes of this early physical changes on our children?
How do parents cope with their behavioral and physical changes? Some parents find it so difficult to condone with insulting and disobedient attitudes demonstrated by some of these teenagers.
The ugliest situation arises when these teenagers associate with bad friends or peer group. They tend to be arrogant, wayward and recalcitrant to people around them. This happens because most parents are always busy with their daily activities with the name of putting food on the table at the end of the day.Hence, they unavoidably fail to see or notice what their children do when they are away.
It is high time parents knew that when they fail to say to their children “I love you” someone else out there will. And ones that happens these adolescent who are eager to explore and learn new things will always listen to whoever tells them “I love you” especially if such person has something to entice them. Then, whatever their parents tell them at home seems not to make sense to them.
Consequently, these adolescent boys and girls secretly attain to night parties, take hard drugs and get involved in other criminal activities at the detriment to their lives and become nuisance to their parents and the society at large.
When teenage girls start having early sex, they feel pompous and tend to show that they have experienced what adults do. That makes them feel so important and take every body equally. It is only when they get unwanted pregnancy to seem to come back to their senses, trying to get close to either their mothers or friends in order to seek solutions to their plight. This is when the idea of aborting the pregnancy comes in.
Conclusively, parents have vital roles to play in seeing their teenage children from the ordeals of adolescent challenges to adulthood. Find out what they do, where they go and who they mingle with. Above all show them love. It’s by doing these they will be able to open up to you and tell you their problems.
