A friend of mine the other day told me a business idea he thought up that, in my opinion, was brilliant (not going to blurt out the idea for fear that I will be responsible for somebody stealing it). However, upon telling me this he basically talked himself down from starting this business venture from his fear of failure and perceived lack of ability.
This mindset is ridiculous, don’t fall into this mode of thinking. I tried to give him a little pep talk, but I don’t think it motivated him enough to actually take action. Too bad.
This is a real life example of why people with great potential, never reach it. The only thing holding you back from reaching your potential is your unwillingness to take action.
When you stare up at a mountain, the idea of moving it seems impossible. Looking at the big picture is daunting and intimating, which often prevents you from even trying.
But if you use a shovel to dump a little part of that mountain into a wheelbarrow, moving that seems like no problem.
Instead of looking at the mountainous end-goal of what you want to achieve, focus on the small things you can do to work towards that goal. It may take you years to move that mountain, but if you take one slice at a time, and continue doing this, its fruition is inevitable.
The difference between a success and failure a lot of times depends on these two things: the willingness to begin the challenge, and willingness to persist.
Don’t let that big mountain intimidate you from starting the challenge, or seeing it through.
If this sounds uncomfortable to you, you have to realize that if you don’t break your comfort zone you will remain still. Personal growth requires continuously putting yourself into uncomfortable situations. Once you get comfortable with being uncomfortable, doors just seem to open up for you. Take action, take the uncomfortableness, take the rewards.
