Aging is a process everything and everyone goes through. From a fine wine to an elegant older woman, there are many plus sides to aging. There are downsides as well. As with anything, there are always two sides. Things and people that age gracefully are generally preferred by everyone.

Laugh often and live long. Laughter is very good for you. It keeps your spirits high and keeps the blood flowing. It will increase positive hormones in your body that will help to eliminate some of the toxins in your blood stream. Laugh until you have to gasp for breath.

Get a good night's sleep every night. Most people need between seven and nine hours of sleep a night. Lack of sleep is proven to be related to many health issues, including depression and cardiovascular conditions.

It may sound depressing but remember you are nearing the end of your life each day. Keeping this in mind will allow you to appreciate even the smallest things in life. It will give you the drive to strive to get the most out of each and every day in your life.

Maintain your muscle mass by getting exercise on a regular basis. Use a pedometer and make sure that you are taking at least 5,000 to 10,000 steps each day. If you maintain your muscle mass, you are sure to avoid some of the terrible falls that you would otherwise incur.

Making health a hobby will empower you to take better care of yourself as you age from the inside out! Study your body, all of its organs, and how they work in order to learn how to treat them better and nurture them as you age. This will provide you with a ton of preventative care and give you great information to apply to aging for your entire life!

A critical factor to prevent aging and increase lifespan is to not smoke. Smoking destroys the body and speeds up the aging process. Smoking is the easiest way to look older and shorten your lifespan at the same time. It causes disease, ages the skin, and is overall one of the main preventable killers known to man.

If you begin to notice age spots as you age, you can try to lighten it if you wish. There are over-the-counter products or prescribed products to help you do this. You may try a fade cream, yet at the same time follow the instructions very carefully so you avoid irritating your skin.

Working on your self-image during aging is vital. Self-image is important as western cultures often place a great deal of emphasis on young people and you need to keep your self- esteem while aging. Just because media and popular culture is obsessed with youth, it does not mean you do not matter!

Losing your hearing as you grow older can happen so slowly that you don't notice it at first. However, it's essential to have your hearing be as clear as possible. This is because poor hearing can have an impact on your emotional and social health. If you cannot hear, you will miss out on conversations and will become more socially isolated, which will leave you feeling depressed. So don't put off taking care of your hearing health.

Make sure that you visit your doctor regularly for a check-up as you get older. Issues like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and mobility issues need to be monitored more frequently because your body will take longer to recover from health problems. Your doctor can advise you if you need to change any routines to keep your body healthy.

As with so many areas of life, the secrets of staying young, and aging well, have to do with taking care of yourself. Eat right, drink plenty of water, get 8 hours of sleep each night and maintain a healthy social life. All of these things have been shown to reduce the appearance of aging, as well as keeping you healthier and happier.

Periodically assess your ability to drive. You may be able to drive well into old age as long as you periodically monitor your ability to do so. Have your eyes and ears checked, don't drive at night if it makes you uncomfortable and make sure your medications don't affect your driving.

Consider getting a pet to keep you company in your golden years. There are many pets in shelters that need loving homes. After you retire, you have more time at home, and you can provide much-needed attention to a pet that needs it. You will have fun with the pet and the pet will have someone to love.

Make sure that you are getting enough calcium in your diet by eating more calcium-rich foods or by taking a supplement. As you age, your bones can lose calcium and become brittle. Brittle bones mean you can get a serious fracture from just a moderate bump. Fractures also do not heal as quickly as you age.

As our skin and bodies age, our skin tone turns a more ashen color. Using a pink cream blush on the cheeks will add a youthful appearance and a healthy glow. The pink cream also has the advantage of giving the skin a plump and natural look without the heavy look of concealers and foundation.

To age brings troubles, sure, but with every trouble, there is generally a plus side. For instance, your wine may have had to age for years before being enjoyed, which is troublesome because you have to wait for a long time to enjoy it. But when you do get to savor the experience of that wine aging, it is well worth it.
